Calderwood runner-up at Don Bosco Invite in golf season opener

WATERLOO – North Tama’s Kylie Calderwood opened her senior golf season on Thursday, April 3, with a runner-up finish at the Don Bosco Invite held at Gates Park Golf Course in Waterloo.

Calderwood recorded a 9-hole low of 53 — three shots behind the medalist, Don Bosco senior Grace Phillips – to help propel the team to a first place finish over both the hosts and GMG.

Other Redhawk finishes included senior Briar Blake who placed third with 54; senior Danika Wrage who tied for fifth with 56; junior Brooke Bradley and sophomore Jessica Morrison who both scored 58 to tie for seventh; and junior Kensginton Pick who tied with GMG’s Olivia Maddux for ninth with a score of 61.

North Tama boys also competed at the Invite, taking second with a combined score of 194 behind Don Bosco’s 181 but ahead of GMG’s 262.

Freshman Maddox Rausch led the Redhawks with a round of 45, while freshman Cayd Cooper and senior Kolt Knaack tied for sixth with scores of 48.

Sophomore Kayvin Morris tallied 53, sophomore Michael Harmsen 54, and junior Bryce Dostal 57 to round out the Redhawk boys’ scorecard.

The next day, Friday, April 4, the Redhawks hosted Gladbrook-Reinbeck; the girls defeated the Rebels with a team score of 196. Calderwood claimed gold during the meet, medaling at 46, while Wrage was runner-up with 48.

Conversely, the Rebel boys claimed victory over the Redhawks with a team score of 163 to North Tama’s 177. North Tama freshman Maddox Rausch medaled with a low score of 37.
