Redhawk wrestlers crown three champs at Belle Plaine

BELLE PLAINE – It was another successful Saturday for the North Tama girls wrestling squad as they competed at the Belle Plaine Girls Invitational, tying for fourth place out of nine teams and crowning three champions in the process including senior Briar Blake, junior Addison ‘Addy’ Hochstetler, and sophomore Grace Dvorak.

Blake, fresh off her season debut the Saturday prior at BGM where she also took the tournament title, notched a pair of pinfall wins for the 170-pound championship – taking down Waterloo West’s Kennedee Dunning in one minute, 48 seconds in the semifinal and Aplington-Parkersburg’s Kira Cox in 39 seconds for the championship.

Hochstetler, who also took the tournament championship last weekend at BGM, won by fall in the quarterfinals by pinning Aplington-Parkersburg’s Lila Reints in two minutes, 55 seconds; won by major decision 8-0 in the semis over Waterloo West’s Peyton Burt; and pinned Aplington-Parkersburg’s Caylee Harken in two minutes, 57 seconds for the 145-pound tournament title.

Redhawk sophomore spitfire Grace Dvorak started her morning in Belle Plaine with a quick 37-second pinfall win over Grinnell’s Zaria Bunch followed by a win by decision 7-6 over Waterloo West’s Kammie Gleiter. For the 110-pound championship, she notched another pinfall win, defeating Grinnell’s Addison Beckman in one minute, three seconds.

Redhawks Jocelyn Harms (135 pounds) and Ava Monat (130 pounds) took fourth and sixth place, respectively, to help propel the team to its tie with West Branch for overall fourth place with 91 points.

Aplington-Parkersburg took first with 159 points; Waterloo West took second with 156 points; and BGM took third with 118 points.

This Saturday, Dec. 7, the Redhawks are scheduled to compete at the Saint Ansgar Invitational beginning at 10 a.m. Teams scheduled to appear include Aplington-Parkersburg, Crestwood, Janesville, Lake Mills, Mason City, North Fayette Valley, Northwood-Kensett, Postville, Riceville, Saint Ansgar, and Waterloo West.
