Knights netters drop season opener at home to No. 12 Hudson

LA PORTE CITY – The Union Knights girls basketball team dropped its season opener at home on Tuesday, Nov. 26, to 2A No. 12 Hudson, 57-14.

Led this season by a new head coach – La Porte City’s Matt Craft who took over from Robert Driscol – the Knights’ roster features just three seniors this year (Josie Bergmeier plus starters Lily Lorenzen and Jailyn Petersen) to Hudson’s seven.

Against the Pirates, Lorenzen led the Knights offense with five points including one 3-pointer and two assists. She also notched two rebounds and a steal.

Junior Reagan Glenn led the Knights’ defense with seven rebounds and a steal plus one free throw.

Junior Addie Pospisil contributed two points, one assist, four rebounds, and a steal, while junior Brynn Albertsen had four points (one 3-pointer), two rebounds, and a steal off the bench.

Bergmeier added a field goal and a rebound.

This week, the Knights (0-1) were set to host Indepence (0-1) on Tuesday and AGWSR (2-0) on Friday, Dec. 6, followed by a string of road games including South Tama (0-1) on Monday, Dec. 9, Wapsie Valley (1-0) on Tuesday, Dec. 10, and Oelwein (0-1) on Friday, Dec. 13.
