Redhawks rumble past Wapsie Valley, 22-13
Dostal’s defensive TD up for ‘Play of the Week’
TRAER — The North Tama football team got its third straight win by knocking off Wapsie Valley 22-13 on Friday night.
The Redhawks (3-2) led 14-13 at the half and held the Warriors (3-2) scoreless the rest of the way to end a three-game skid against Wapsie Valley.
Redhawk quarterback Kolt Knaack threw for 165 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score, leading the team with 67 rushing yards. He was 13-for-26 passing with a pair of interceptions and a 50-yard touchdown pass to Josh Dostal.
Dostal scored a defensive TD for the Redhawks, returning a fumble 65 yards for a score.
Gavin Rausch finished with five receptions for 62 yards and Tyrus Luker had three catches for 40 yards. Rausch led the defense as well with 8.5 tackles and Knaack had 7.5 stops, including two for loss. Kayler Morris added an interception.
Wapsie Valley was limited to 177 yards of total offense, with 174 coming on the ground. Hunter Curley had 68 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors.
Following the game, Dostal’s impressive defensive TD was nominated for KWWL’s Week 5 ‘Play of the Week.’ Other plays nominated include Linn-Mar’s Dylan Muszynski’s 85-yard touchdown run, Grundy Center’s Judd Jirovsky’s interception and return for a touchdown, and Elkader Central’s Gerrett Burns’ fumble recovery and a touchdown.

This week, North Tama will host their Homecoming game. The Redhawks are scheduled to take on North Butler (3-2) in Class A District 3 action. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Dennis Field.
