The Dengler Domain: Trousers, Platform Shoes & Tie-Dye T-Shirts
Time to travel to a groovy era. It is the decade of Nixon’s resignation, Ford’s falling and Carter’s peanut presidency. This is the 1970’s. The ’70s were an influential decade affecting individuals then and now. A lot of crazy, beautiful things happened in this decade. One part of this decade was the fashion trends like checkered and plaid trousers, platform shoes and tie-dye t-shirts. These trends were hot in the ’70s, but do they stand the test of time?
Checkered and plaid trousers are an amazing sight. These pants are more different than any other kind of pants. These pants do not exist in present society, and they are like the cousin who never married nor had a family. These pants were born out of something, but they never gave way to anything similar. I am pro bringing these pants back to modern society. The distinct checkered and plaid trousers look is beautiful. Especially on men in today’s world, these pants would reach amazing new heights. The potential is unlimited. Today’s men are limited to jeans or nice slacks, but these checkered and plaid trousers would throw the world a curveball.
While not as amazing as checkered and plaid trousers, platform shoes are very interesting. The height these shoes added to a woman appears beneficial, but the risk of injury increased. These shoes are like the checkered and plaid trousers because no other shoes resemble them. Out of the three fashion trends, platform shoes stand the larger chance of succeeding in today’s society. A chance I hope does not happen because women’s ankles are not going to like them.
Lastly, tie-dye t-shirts are the definition of the ’70s. These shirts eat, sleep and breathe the ’70s. Depending on the person, these shirts are beautiful or tacky. Tie-dye shirts are for chill and not caring people. They are unique and can be made at home. Tie-dye oversaturated the t-shirt market in the ’70s, and today’s society is still feeling after effects. These shirts were something, a something which needs to stay in the ’70s.
All of these fashion trends were important in the ’70s. These trends helped formed today’s culture and society. While I do not approve of wearing this combination of clothing together, these closes affected fashion in more ways than one. Whether they are checkered or plaid trousers, platform shoes or tie dye t-shirts, their significance is unmatched by other fashion trends of the ’70s. The ’70s would have been a fun time for fashion and many other reasons. This is where this column ends. It’s been groovy, everybody.
