This style of writing is out of fashion and today’s youth do not go through the struggles of wondering why a z looks like a y in cursive. While this a sad part of the evolution of writing, other features of writing have changed for the better. In the past, writing on pen paper held a significant place in the world such as sending a resume and cover letter and the use of paper. At the same time as the change from pen and paper to computer, popular names have altered.
The resume and cover letter writing and sending process has changed dramatically. Making a resume and cover letter would be hard before computers because the excess of copies. In today’s world, most companies prefer having resumes and cover letters sent to them. This fortunately reduced the amount of paper being used. Computers are beneficial because they provide example resumes and cover letters via the internet. This is favorable, and I would not enjoy making many copies or typing up my resume multiple times.
The use of paper has shifted by the onset of computers. Computers have caused job applications, driver tests, and doctor offices to cut down on their paper usage. Files are not determined by how many cabinets but by how many hard drives. Less paper is used by writers because of computers. More times than not writing comes by looking at a computer screen than looking down at an empty notebook and pen. While saving paper is ideal, the attachment to the written material is gone. Being a writer before a computer, and writing thoughts, words, and sentences onto paper provides an intimate feeling with the work.
Names have changed over the course of the past century due to parents’ creativity. Using the government’s social security website, looking for popular names has never been easier. A few examples are in 1913, John and Mary were the most popular names. In 1993, it was Michael and Jessica, and in 2013 it was Noah and Sophia. A running them through all the years is biblical names have always held their place on the top ten names list. During the late 19thcentury and early 20thcentury, biblical names were at their highest power. Women’s names change more often on a year to year basis than men’s. While I have no preference for a specific name, I am not a fan of a fancy kid’s name. The only exception is when I name my kids Earth, Wind, and Fire.
After discussing resumes, cover letters, usage of paper, and the change in names, writing continues to have a large influence on society. It is important to hold on to every form of writing and not let any of it disappear. It is an important part of human nature and writing will always hold a place in today’s and future societies.
