Glenn Jacobsen
Glenn Michael Jacobsen (Mike), 78, passed away unexpectedly on October 29,2024, after a period of declining health. Glenn was born and raised in Dysart, Iowa. He is survived by Barbara Jacobsen, his wife of fifty years. Other survivors include his son Erich Jacobsen (Michelle), and their four children, Elle, Ava, Liam and Isaac. He is also survived by his daughter Amy Reimer and her three daughters, Emily, Katelyn and Allison. Glenn is mourned by his siblings Mary J. Nace (Dan), Joel Jacobsen, and Kris Gehl (Ed), his brother-in-law, Steve Marsh (Daphne), sister-in-law Susan Frazier (David) and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Jean and Glenn Jacobsen, and sadly Glenn and Barb’s son, Dain Jacobsen.
Glenn and Barbara met while pursuing their graduate degrees in Social Work at the University of Iowa. This union and marriage would shape the next five decades of their lives. Both Glenn and Barbara continued to work in Social Work for the remainder of their careers. Glenn dedicated his life work to academia. His passion for teaching was evident, particularly with undergraduate and graduate students. Known for his high standards he challenged students to excel and many later expressed their gratitude for the rigorous preparation they received under his guidance. He also enjoyed his role as a Department Chair.
In addition to teaching and administration, Glenn was a tenured professor, a published author and consulted with social programs across the country to evaluate or consult about Social Work accreditation. He took immense pride in his educational accomplishments including earning his PhD. His legacy is his commitment and dedication to his family, students and the Social Work profession.
Glenn retired early due to the onset of Parkinson’s Disease. In retirement Glenn and Barbara enjoyed traveling in their camper to visit friends and family all over the country. They also enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren and their parents.
Per Glenn’s request, his body was donated to science and we honored that request. A visitation and celebration of his life will be held for Glenn on Saturday November 16th, 2-4 PM. It will be held at the Ozark Event Center, 842 Guin Road, Nixa, Missouri.
