Mark Allen Lyons, 52, died Thursday, March 31, 2016 at his daughter’s home in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines. A graveside service will begin 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Dysart Cemetery in Dysart, Iowa.
Mark was born in Waterloo, IA to parents Donald and Janice Lyons. He grew up with his brothers in Dysart, IA, where he was active in Boy Scouts, football, wrestling, band, and drama/speech.
A true hard-working Iowa boy, Mark was responsible at a young age, delivering newspapers as well as working at the Benton Co-op and Pioneer.
Mark attended Simpson College, where he studied business administration. He was a member of Lambda Chi fraternity and was the College Activities Board President. It was during this time he met Janeal, his future wife. Mark and Janeal were married on August 23, 1985.
On May 12, 1987 Mark and Janeal welcomed their twins, Austin and Kassidy. Mark enjoyed family activities, listening to blues and jazz, exercising, and shelling on the beaches of Florida. He was a dedicated father and spouse and was always there for his family when the need arose.
Mark also enjoyed a successful career. He earned a Masters in Banking from the Graduate School of Banking in Colorado. He was committed to his executive position at First American Bank and enjoyed its challenges. Mark’s hard work allowed the opportunity for the couple to move to Florida this past October.
Mark fought a courageous fight against an aggressive form of brain cancer, without complaint. He wanted to be the one miracle to defy the odds, but Mark was and will always be our miracle.
The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, April 3rdat Iles Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the family for a fund to be designated at a later date. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com.
