TOLEDO – This past Monday just shy of 9 a.m. in the Tama County Courthouse’s main courtroom, four of the county’s new crop of supervisors along with Tama County Sheriff-elect Casey Schmidt (R-Dysart) and Tama County Auditor-elect Karen Rohrs (R-Toledo) were administered the oath of office.

Those pictured receiving the oath of office from Tama County Attorney Brent Heeren include returning District 1 Supervisor Curt Hilmer (top left); District 3 Supervisor Heather Knebel (top right) – now officially the county’s first elected female supervisor in history; and Tama County Sheriff Casey Schmidt (bottom left).

Sheriff Schmidt was sworn in under the watchful eye of his now-retired partner, K-9 Deputy Tyson whose retirement from the Tama County Sheriff’s Department went into effect this week. Tyson’s remaining years will be spent in relatively calm luxury in Dysart where he will permanently reside with Sheriff Schmidt and his family.

Also pictured, Tama County Auditor Karen Rohrs (bottom right) who was administered her oath of office by retiring Tama County Auditor Laura Kopsa. Following the oath, the longtime colleagues embraced for a hug.

Not pictured, District 2 Supervisor David Turner and District 4 Supervisor Mark Doland who were also sworn into office on Monday; District 5 Supervisor Curt Kupka received his oath of office on Monday, Dec. 23, following the weekly supervisors meeting.
