TOLEDO – Last Monday morning, with dark, brooding clouds hanging low overhead in typical fall fashion, the usual county government onlookers filed in for the weekly supervisors’ meeting.

The public comment time, which, as of late, has been filled with silence and idle chit chat due to the lack of interesting agenda items, was once again blustering with conversation and comment. The resignation of Todd Sebesta from the Tama County Board of Adjustment was the hot topic. Some members of the public thought the timing of Sebesta’s resignation was questionable. Nov. 12 is the date on Sebesta’s letter, which stated that his resignation would be effective on Nov. 13. Nov. 12 was also the day of a quarrelsome Board of Adjustment appeal hearing regarding zoning certificates for 60 wind turbines and a substation. Moot speculation and discussion were had on the subject among those present. When the agenda item came up during the meeting, the supervisors approved Mr. Sebesta’s resignation.

The Tama County Engineer, in his regular report, stated that blading and rocking were being done. The bridge crew is placing beams this week, and the department is preparing for winter.

Claims totaling $104,019.42 were approved.
