Hora-Machacek Auxiliary holds August meeting

CLUTIER – Hora-Macheck Legion Auxiliary met on Tuesday, August 6 at the Clutier post home. The following members were present: Collette W, Pauline S, Diane C, Mary S, Linda D, and Veronica P. President Veronica brought the meeting to order. Mary said prayer and the vacant chair. Veronica called the roll and read June’s minutes. A correction was made. Collette helped on Saturday, May 25, placing crosses on Veterans graves.

Treasurer Diane reviewed our finances. She presented a bill for two 3×5 double sided pow flags and eight dozen ears of corn. Collette made a motion to pay the bill seconded by Pauline. Motion carried. A thank you was received from the Iowa City Veterans Hospital for the 22 lap quilts that Collette had delivered to them.

Diane reported that three men and four women from our post attended the Tama County potluck, flag disposal service and meeting on June 25 at the Elberon post home. It was reported that 98 high school children attended Government Day in Toledo. The speaker talked about human trafficking. Tama County IVH picnic was August 3. Diane, Linda, and Sue helped from our unit. We furnished 2 pies and a roaster of home grown sweet corn. Ran out of pies due to cutting into six pieces instead of eight. There was a mix-up in serving the meatballs. Served 111 residents. Will need to discuss the picnic with IVH on how to serve our food that we furnish next year.

Diane showed us the framed pictures of the brick with our name on it at the National Headquarters of ALA in Indianapolis. Will be hanging the picture up in the hall. Diane reported that the Auxiliary marker for Mary Caslavka is missing at the St Vaclav cemetery. Our unit will replace it.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept 3, at 1:30 p.m. Sewing days will begin on Tuesday, October 1st at 9 a.m. Door prize was won by Diane. Sang Happy Birthday to Pauline. Mary said the closing prayer and Pauline retired the colors. Enjoyed a delicious mandarin orange salad with crackers hosted by Linda.
