Becky Fevold selected for Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame
2024 honorees to be inducted Aug. 18 at the Iowa State Fair
GLADBROOK – Gladbrook resident Becky Fevold is this year’s Tama County inductee for the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame.
The Iowa 4-H Foundation sponsors the annual Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame induction ceremony at the Iowa State Fair. Inductees into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame represent the many people in Iowa who have contributed countless hours to the 4-H program. They work tirelessly to see that Iowa’s youth have a great learning experience in a safe and fun environment. These adults have modeled volunteerism, community service, integrity, and leadership to Iowa’s youth. Their legacy is the young people they have mentored who will in turn support the continuation of a 4-H program that builds Iowa’s leaders. Only one individual or couple per county can be nominated each year. Inductees can be recognized posthumously.
When asked why 4-H is important, Becky Fevold will tell you “Seeing former 4-Hers that have accomplished their dreams in their special areas, whether it be horses, rabbits, poultry or any other livestock and also in the different non-livestock areas, you hope you have had a small part in their accomplishments.” And with over 30 years as a 4-H leader and numerous years as a horse, poultry, and rabbit superintendent for the Tama County Fair and serving in other roles at the fair, we can share that Becky Fevold has had a huge part in 4-H members accomplishments.
As a youth, Becky was a nine-year member of 4-H. Her projects included horses, sheep, clothing, home improvement and cooking. Becky followed those experiences by being a fair superintendent for horses, poultry, and rabbits. Throughout the years as horse superintendent, Becky led the horse program which included classes and practices. During the years, she saw the horse show decrease in size, but through her time watched it grow as well as the poultry program. Becky also served as the secretary of the fair board and board member.
Becky was a leader for the Crystal Sunbeams for 30 years. During her time as a leader, the club would have two or three presentations at each meeting. In addition, they would host one or two workshops a year which could be an all-day session in which the members work on something and can carry home a finished product. Becky was chosen one year to help evaluate record books on the state level. She was also chosen to go to Waterloo to judge the Area Council.
Of her years in 4-H, Becky says that “Everybody should have the opportunity to be in it.” She learned a lot from 4-H, and it helped her in school and in getting up before the public.
Becky Fevold will be recognized at the Iowa State Fair at 3:30 pm on August 18 in the 4-H Exhibit Building. It is an honor to have her inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame!
Thank you, Becky Fevold, for your dedication to the youth of Tama County.
