In 2023, MercyOne hospitals across the state celebrated more than 8,200 births, including 153 sets of twins and one set of triplets.

Oliver was the top boy’s name in Des Moines, but Theodore topped lists in both Davenport and Waterloo. Eleanor and Sophia took top spots for girl names at several MercyOne hospitals.

MercyOne parents, in true Iowa independence, seemed to buck some of the recent trends reported by Babycenter.com. Babycenter.com reports Olivia, Emma, and Amelia as the top girl names for 2023 and Noah, Liam, and Oliver as the top boy names.
