Cedar Falls author to speak at Traer library about closed Iowa schools

Kenyon.

TRAER – Author James Kenyon of Cedar Falls, a retired veterinarian, will be speaking at the Traer Public Library on Wednesday, Oct. 11 about his latest book, “Echoes in the Hallways” which documents the history of 102 now-shuttered Iowa high schools. Over the course of 18 months, Kenyon traveled to all of Iowa’s 99 counties to visit at least one closed high school. While some schools were still standing, many were long gone. In addition to consulting county historical records, Kenyon also interviewed former students and staff members as part of his research for the book. In total, over 1,000 Iowans shared their memories and the history of their towns and schools with Kenyon. The free program begins at 2 p.m.
