Body identified in rural Buckingham home explosion

BUCKINGHAM – In an update to an earlier story, the Tama County Sheriff’s Office this afternoon released the name of the individual who was discovered deceased on Monday, Aug. 14, near a rural Tama County residence east of Buckingham that had exploded and caught fire earlier that same morning.

The individual’s body, located on the property of 1117 W. Avenue, Buckingham, was positively identified as Roger H. Dehrkoop, 70.

Dehrkoop is listed as the address’s property owner in online real estate records.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s office conducted Dehrkoop’s autopsy on Aug. 21; positively identifying Dehrkoop the next day.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
