The Kubik-Finch Legion Auxiliary Post 142 met Tuesday, June 13 to end the year with 18 members and a guest enjoying a potluck. Dawn Breakenridge gave a report on the proposed second mural to be done on Second Street for Traer’s Sesquicentennial. A donation was approved.

The charter was draped for Barbara Dedic who passed away recently.

Arlene Schmidt gave a report on the Pillow Cleaning Project and Poppy Distribution. The public was very supportive.

Karen Podhajsky was thanked for her beautiful Memorial Weekend display, a tribute to those who have passed in the past year and are now resting in peace.

Kathy Manful reported on the reception held in the Traer Museum after the Gold Star Cemetery Walk.

A report was given on the success of Government Day for high school seniors in Toledo in May.

A good time was had by several members assisting with Bingo at the Iowa Veterans Home.

It has been decided to have a float in the Winding Stairs Festival.

A U.S. Flag has been obtained from the Legion and a raffle will be held also during the Festival.

Coming up on August 5 the Tama County Auxiliaries will be hosting a picnic at the Iowa Veterans Home. Our unit has been assigned a big bowl of fresh fruit and two pies. Members signed up for various fruits, pies and volunteers to assist the residents. Until COVID hit, this was an annual tradition. Happy to resume.

At the end of the meeting, we decorated vases to be taken to the veterans and veterans’ widows at Sunrise Hill.

Brainstorming meetings were held on June 22 and July 19 to finalize plans for the Winding Stairs Festival.
