Woodson earns IIAC honors for first time

Buena Vista sophomore Seth Woodson (Dysart, Iowa/Union) has been recognized by the Iowa Conference for his stellar performances on the track during Saturday’s annual Dennis Young Classic, hosted by BVU, by being named the IIAC Men?s Track and Field (Track) Performer of the Week.

Woodson, who captured the IIAC Championships Outdoor 800m Run title last spring, began his day by running the second leg of the 4×200 meter relay which captured gold in a time of 1:32.73. That clocking is currently the fourth-fastest time in the IIAC this season.

Later in the day, he went on to break a school record in the 600 meter run, when he won the event by about a half-second with a time of 1:21.90. The previous school mark was set back in 2003 by Justin Barber (1:22.30). Two weeks ago, Seth won gold in the 800 meter run at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite, coming just short of a school record in that event.

Woodson becomes the first Beaver to receive such recognition since current BVU assistant coach Steven Ricke did so back in 2010. Ricke was named the Men?s Track and Field (Field) Performer of the Week on January 31, 2010.

Buena Vista is back on the track this weekend when it takes part in the Grinnell College Invite on Saturday.
